Neighbor thwarts potential car break-in
December 7, 2007 – 4:39 pmLast night (Wed. 12/5) at approximately 10:45 pm, I was travelling on
Tugaloo from Harden toward S. Gregg. As I approached S. Edisto, I
observed a black male on a bicycle. He was wearing a white hoody with
the hood up and blue jeans. He was approximately 6′ and 190 lbs. He
was on S. Edisto moving toward Heyward. Because he was acting
suspiciously–and given the recent rash of break-ins of vehicles–I
waited at the intersection to observe him.
He laid his his bike down across from 110 S. Edisto and crossed the
street. Therefore, I turned right onto S. Edisto in his direction. As
I turned onto S. Edisto, he was standing beside a full size Chevy
Pick-Up (Texas plate 9VGX42). This truck was parked facing toward
Rosewood at 110 S. Edisto (facing the “wrong way”). As I turned onto
S. Edisto, the subject darted back across the street, jumped on his
bike, and took off toward Heyward Street. I immediately called the
police at 252-2911, and followed the individual. Knowing I was
following him, he disappeared near the intersection of Edisto and
Saluda (near 5 Points).
I returned to the 100 Block of S. Edisto, and noted that the passenger
window of the above Pick-Up was open. I do not know how it got that
way. CPD was on the scene fairly quickly, and I told them all of the
above. Several units patrolled the neighborhood for some time after
that. Please be on the lookout for the above person and report any
suspicious activity to the Columbia Police Department at 911 or
252-2911.
Enjoying the Journey,
